A giant rises from the depths, breaking the still between the sea and sky. After being on the brink of extinction, about half a century ago, hunting humpback whales was banned. We are now seeing the benefits of this and how resilient mother nature can be when given a chance. Humpback numbers are rising each year here on the BC coast and on this particular occasion we were lucky enough to not only see but hear around 20 humpbacks surfacing all within about a mile of each other as we at in silent awe. It was quite the magnificent sight and the perfect ending to our multi-day camping trip on the NW coast of Vancouver Island.
