Some of my favourite days on the west coast of Vancouver Island are the foggy ones. Its always nice when its sunny and blue skies but there is something about days like this that heighten ones senses, maybe the lack of visual stimulation or the depth if field. When I heard this humpback through the fog and then was able to find the giant using just sound and patients, I sat with it for hours with my engines off as it came up to breath, the sound of it exhale filled the inlet. As its giant tail (flukes) came up after it last breath to dive, there was a waterfall dripping off the back as it dove back down to the depths to feed.
